Cookie Policy
Last updated: July 25, 2026
This page describes cookies and similar browser-storage technologies used by Emoji Keyboard. It is an informational explanation of the current implementation, not a substitute for professional legal advice.
1. Cookies and Similar Technologies
Cookies are small pieces of data that a website can ask a browser to store and return with later requests. localStorage is a separate browser-storage mechanism that lets a website retain values in a browser profile without sending them automatically with every request. Both can remember information, but they work differently. This policy covers cookies and related browser storage used by Emoji Keyboard.
2. Browser Storage Used by Emoji Keyboard
The site uses localStorage for recent emoji identifiers, favorite emoji identifiers, the selected skin tone, composer entries, and the analytics consent choice. The verified keys are emoji-keyboard:recent:v1, emoji-keyboard:favorites:v1, emoji-keyboard:skin-tone:v1, emoji-keyboard:composer:v1, and emoji-keyboard.analytics-consent.
These values remain in that browser profile until they are cleared, overwritten, or unavailable. They do not automatically synchronize to another browser or device. Private browsing and browser cleanup can remove them. The core keyboard can still generally be browsed and copied from after preferences are cleared, subject to browser support, but remembered selections and settings reset.
3. Essential and Preference Storage
The analytics-consent value records whether analytics was accepted or rejected so the site can respect that choice on later visits. Recent emojis, favorites, skin tone, and composer entries are preference or functionality storage: they make the tool more convenient but are not all strictly necessary to display the keyboard. Google Analytics cookies are optional and are not used unless analytics is accepted.
4. Google Analytics 4
Google Analytics 4 is optional. Analytics consent is denied by default, and the GA4 analytics tag is not rendered or loaded before a visitor accepts analytics. After acceptance, GA4 may process page views, approximate location, device and browser information, referring pages, interactions, and visit timing to help improve content, usability, and performance.
Emoji Keyboard does not intentionally send names, email addresses, or composed emoji content to GA4. Google may set cookies such as _ga and a measurement-property cookie beginning with _ga_ after consent. Cookie names and expiration periods may vary according to Google's configuration and updates. GA4 data should not be described as fully anonymous.

5. Current Cookie and Storage Table
| Name or category | Provider | Technology | Purpose | When used | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
emoji-keyboard:recent:v1 | Emoji Keyboard | localStorage | Remembers recent emoji identifiers. | After recent selections change. | Until cleared or overwritten. |
emoji-keyboard:favorites:v1 | Emoji Keyboard | localStorage | Remembers favorite emoji identifiers. | After favorites change. | Until cleared or overwritten. |
emoji-keyboard:skin-tone:v1 | Emoji Keyboard | localStorage | Remembers the selected skin tone. | After the preference changes. | Until cleared or overwritten. |
emoji-keyboard:composer:v1 | Emoji Keyboard | localStorage | Remembers collected composer entries. | After composer content changes. | Until cleared or overwritten. |
emoji-keyboard.analytics-consent | Emoji Keyboard | localStorage | Remembers accepted or rejected analytics consent. | After a consent choice. | Until changed or cleared. |
_ga and _ga_* | Google Analytics | Cookies | Helps distinguish visits and maintain analytics state. | Only after analytics acceptance. | Varies with Google configuration and updates. |
| Google AdSense advertising cookies and identifiers | Google and participating advertising partners | Cookies and similar technologies | Ad delivery, measurement, frequency control, fraud prevention, security, and personalization where permitted. | When advertising is active and subject to applicable consent and settings. | Varies by technology, provider, consent, and Google configuration. |
6. Consent Choices
Before acceptance, analytics storage is denied and GA4 remains unloaded. After acceptance, the choice is stored in localStorage, the GA4 analytics tag may load, and analytics cookies may be created. After rejection, analytics remains unloaded.
You can reopen the controls with the Privacy settings button in the footer. When accepted consent is withdrawn, the implementation sends a denied consent update when possible, removes accessible _ga and _ga_* cookies, removes the GA4 analytics script, and reloads the page without the GA4 analytics tag. Withdrawal does not promise deletion of data that Google already processed or aggregated.
7. Managing Browser Storage
Modern browsers provide site-data or privacy settings where cookies and localStorage can be viewed, blocked, or cleared. Exact menus vary by browser and version. Clearing site data can reset favorites, recent emojis, skin-tone preference, composer content, and the saved consent choice. Clipboard copying and basic browsing should generally remain available, subject to browser permissions and compatibility.
8. Third-Party Services
Google Analytics is used only after analytics consent. The Google AdSense script is integrated for ownership verification and potential advertising as described below. Cloudflare provides hosting and delivery infrastructure and may process ordinary technical requests for delivery, reliability, and security. This policy does not claim that Cloudflare sets a particular cookie because no such site-specific cookie is verified here. See the Privacy Policy for broader information practices.
9. Google AdSense and Advertising
The Google AdSense script has been integrated for site ownership verification and potential advertising. Google's certified European Privacy & messaging consent message is configured and published, while advertising remains subject to AdSense approval and ads are not currently serving.
When AdSense advertising is active, Google and its advertising partners may use advertising cookies, identifiers, or similar technologies where legally permitted and subject to required consent. These technologies may support ad delivery, frequency control, measurement, fraud prevention, security, and personalization where allowed. This policy does not list specific advertising cookie names because their actual use has not been verified.
Advertising consent is separate from the current GA4 analytics preference. Visitors in the EEA, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland are shown Google's certified consent message where required. The message provides Consent, Do not consent, and Manage options, together with a privacy-choice or revocation control for revisiting or revoking advertising choices.

10. Policy Updates
This policy may change when browser storage, analytics, consent behavior, or third-party services change. The latest version and its updated date will appear on this page.
